What material will best suit my needs for my tag?

Take in consideration the application and use of your tag. If your tag will mainly be used to identify, count, or notify, and in an indoor environment, standard cardstock will usually suffice. If your tag needs to be tear resistant, be exposed to the elements, a material such as Tyvek™ or synthetic needs to be considered

Raw tag stock and cardstock

Raw tag stock and cardstock are the most versatile and cost effective solution for most tagging needs. These can easily be printed on and written on, and is best suited for indoor applications. Repair and Inventory tags are often made of this material where they are pre-printed and then additional information being written on by pen, pencil or marker, depending on the application.

Raw tag and cardstock are available in 7pt, 10pt, 13pt and even 15pt. 10pt is the most common used and it’s thickness is a good balance of rigidity and cost. 15pt is considered a heavyweight tag stock.

Raw tag stock is an uncoated white or manila material. It is the most cost effective choice.

Cardstocks make up our coloured selection of paper tag materials. While also available as a white choice, these are predominatly coloured. Basically, cardstock is made applying coloured dye to clay dust and baking it onto raw tag stock. The result is a matt coloured card which can be written on in pen, pencil or marker. Being slightly less porous than regular raw tag stock, the print on cardstock is usually sharper than on raw tag stock.

We carry nearly 20 standard coloured cardstock, including a full spectrum of fluorescent colours. For those more specialized applications we can also floodcoat a raw tag stock to any PMS colour of your choice.

Tyvek™

Tyvek™ is a outdoor standard in tag material choice. Available in various thicknesses, our standard is the 7pt version. The 7pt Tyvek is the most cost effective thickness while maintaining significant resistance to tearing and to the elements. Tyvek™ is used for a multitude of applications because of it’s versatility – just remember not to tear them off your mattress!! Other thicknesses, and even label material, is available with certain minimums and costs.

Tyvek™ may be the most versatile tag material. It is highly tear and water resistant, resistant even to certain chemical exposure. Depending how it is printed or what inks are used it can resist the elements for a year or more.

Tyvek™ can be floodcoated, printed, numbered, perforated or anything else we can do with tag or cardstock. Not well known is that Tyvek™ is also fully recycleable.

We carry a full selection of blank Tyvek™ tags, with or without wires, as stock items. Contact our team to get more details.

Synthetic

Synthetic materials can be a cost effective alternative to Tyvek™. Being poly based, synthetics have a smooth, glossy surface, often resulting in a sharper, well defined print. Our standard synthetic is 10pt in thickness ressembling a standard tag stock. We also carry a slightly thinner synthetic, much like the weight of Tyvek™, although this thinner synthetic is slightly less tear resistent, sacrificing durablility for a lower cost point.

Just as with Tyvek™, synthetics are only white but can be floodcoated to any PMS colour of your choice.

NCR and Manifold tags

Multicopy tags can still be made with a carbon paper but those that remain are mostly made using NCR paper where carbon dust on either side of the two copies react when pushed together to transfer print from one copy bto the other. Limited colours and thicknesses are avialble in NCR papers which may somethings bring the need for old fashioned carbon paper. Advantag can still produce both options.

What colours are available?

We have nearly 20 colours of cardstock in various thickness ready for your order. If the colour you need isn’t in that selection we can floodcoat* any material any colour you need.

*Certain minimums may apply*
